M: We didn't know that there would be reading material available on the hike. Every now and then, we'd stop and read about our surroundings at these little educational stations.
D: The one I remember best was about how in the 1840's, no one on the East coast believed a word about these trees, so someone stripped all the bark off one (which now stands there, dead and naked) in chunks, shipped them across the country, and reassembled them to prove how huge they were.
M: And they are effing huge. It's not an optical illusion or anything. These things are vast. Anyway, this picture was taken just before Dan's and Chris's beards leapt off their faces and attacked each other, growling and snapping. We had to beat them apart with frozen branches.
D: Um, are you on glue?
M: Swear to God.
